Two Views of a Ruin

A still evening and the sun is thinking of going down. Just a slight pink tinge to the far sky. It’s an ancient castle or rather the remains of a 16th century tower house built on the cliff at Greenan, near Ayr – and a scene of inter-clan fighting around 1600 AD.

The great castles of Edinburgh and Stirling are the ones that attract the tourists, of course, and rightly so. Then, there’s Culzean Castle not far down the coast from Greenan (link to a short post on Culzean). But our land is sprinkled with small ruins not unlike this one. They are not all in such prime positions but they are there.

Down on the beach here, Greenan Castle provides a nice vertical element for photographs in a quite flat but pleasant landscape.
