A Quiet Place

It’s a place we often go to chill out and look at the sea. It’s over at the rocks behind Troon harbour – that’s Troon, best known for its championship golf course. We pass the harbour and stop in the small car park, looking out over the waves towards the Isle of Arran.

I suppose it’s not really always that quiet, especially if the weather is a bit wild. And the car park is often full of cars. And yesterday, when I took most of these photographs, there was the low rumble from the forklifts and extraction fans from the timber plant that backs onto the scene.

Yet, despite that, the outlook is always peaceful. It’s a place where you can become quiet in your mind by being so close to the natural world. The sense of peace gets even stronger if you get right down onto the rocks themselves and look around at the wildlife and the beauty of the Firth of Clyde.

And yesterday, I came across a flock of Golden Plover, who seemed quite happy to sit at rest while I took photographs.

Earlier this week, we went down there to watch the sun going down……….and there were another couple enjoying the stillness in a different way.

Yesterday, as well as the plovers, there was a ‘gulp’ of cormorants sitting out on the rocks, plus four harbour seals (three on the water and one on the rocks)

This seal was much at ease and very relaxed too. I did a double-take at this image – a two-headed seal?? Not at all, the old salt was just crossing his ‘legs’.

This post is in response to Amanda’s Friendly Friday Photo Challenge – Quiet Places. Thanks for setting the challenge!

    1. Thanks Sandy. The area is very exposed and it can get pretty wild there. That’s one other thing about the place; depending on the tide, time and weather it’s always different.

  1. I love the seal with the crossed legs and the plovers and cormorants, all in a line on the rocks. Paddleboarders always look so effortless as they glide by. I think anywhere beside the water is calming. Beautiful quiet places for the Friendly Friday challenge. Well done.
