This week I reckon I took the road less travelled. Usually I head off down to the river, through the woods towards the castle and the fields beyond. So this week I headed in the other direction. I found myself walking down the wee roads that pass by garages and back gardens towards the park.
Now, this is a really lovely area, but I went this back road and the things that caught my eye were those various doorways that had seen better days, like doors that needed repainting around ten years ago. And you could see various paint colours showing through, some with little additions from spray cans.
Just something different I found whilst walking. This in no way reflected my mood that day.

And then to continue the theme of what time and neglect does to things, I came across the scene of a bowling green that looked completely abandoned.

Thanks to Amanda for setting the Friendly Friday Photo Challenge – Whilst Walking.
Just like the quote on Amanda’s post –

I’ll show you images of the other road sometime soon – promise!

Lovely shots!

Atmospheric captures, James. The textures in old doors and abandoned buildings make for great subjects. It looks like lawn bowls is in decline in Scotland?

Thanks, Amanda. Yes, many bowls clubs are struggling to attract new members. Younger generations don’t seem to be interested.

My father used to and still does play bowls. After a hand injury on one arm in early life, he could no longer play cricket, his chosen sport. So he turned to bowls. He was always the youngest one. Unfortunately, I haven’t received a genetically based interest in that direction. It seems quite boring to me. I can see though, that it provided a great social outlet.

Absolutely! My mum and dad both played. Mum’s 93 years old now and still comes out with detailed stories of her bowling matches and the friends she made.
