Shots of the Cloisters at Glasgow University.
“The Cloisters (also known as The Undercroft) connect the East and West quadrangles and lead inside the Gilbert Scott Building to the stunning Bute Hall, where the University’s graduation ceremonies are held, and the Hunterian Museum. With their fluted columns and transverse ribbed vault, these impressive archways are an iconic part of the University, and have been seen onscreen in many films and TV shows including Cloud Atlas and Outlander.”

It’s getting close to that time of year when new students are about to take up their university courses. These cloisters and the surrounding buildings must immediately convey the gravitas of their imminent endeavour. I’ve been through them a number of times though I personally never studied here.
On my last visit, it seemed that these cloisters provided a photographic challenge. It so very dark in the cloisters and seems so bright outside, so there’s a need to balance the exposure and set a composition of interest. And so many images on the web similar to the one above. So, I focussed on the complex ceiling with all its shapes that support the halls above.

Even the modern lighting seems in keeping with the architecture of 1897

And I was in the mood for trying out multiple exposures at the time, and so I ended up with the following image and I really don’t know what I think of it.

Do I like it? What does it say? Not really sure.
So finishing off with a assembled panel of images from these iconic Glasgow University buildings.
