Tethered to his perch
Calm, content
Awaiting his flight time
Raised as captive
Cared for, loved
Never knew freedom
Nor nature’s threats
Trusts his handler
Like there’s a deal
His beauty and liberty
For the easy life
And when he’s old
He won’t die in the field
Won’t starve from infirmity
Will retire to his enclosure
