Shapes on Clydeside

The seductive shapes of the modern buildings at the Clydeside waterfront. If there’s any light at all, there are many opportunities for dramatic architectural images. I’ve tried here to find some compositions that perhaps are a bit out of the ordinary.

The area is a focus for entertainment, conference and media headquarters, but currently it’ll be very quite inside the venues like the Hydro, SECC, the Armadillo, the Science Centre and the Imax. I’m not at all sure when I’ll see it all again. Missing Glasgow!

Patio Table

It’s just a fairly standard patio table and chair. Cast in aluminium sections, bolted together and given a matt black finish. And the strong sun recreating its patterns on the ground, while the rays reflect from the jet black table surface making for white over black background.

Let there be light!

Toast

I dreamt I was awake all night,
a tumbling waterfall of thoughts,
Strange environments, late for meetings.
Where did I leave the car?
Why am I shouting at this person?
I dreamt all night I was awake.

And now,
I’m in the kitchen opening the blinds
to the warmth and love of sunshine
….and of toast

The View from Here

Tigger looks over the rough-cut lawn
where blackbirds peck to serve their young,
beyond to see azaleas bloom,
while cherry trees stand guard
where dogs are walked and runners run,
and people pace their exercise yard.

Not far somewhere a battle’s fought
while sun shines strong and magpies court.
All’s changed but all is still the same, so
here I stay and here I stand,
watch carers come with PPE
and see parked cars and Tesco vans.

So lucky, so grateful, but losing ‘precious time’,
the view from here… so hazy, I fear
the loss and scuttled plans.

Robin and Friends

I know it’s more birds but this time of year lends itself to bird photography. There are more unusual visitors during the winter months, and the regular common birds come even closer to humans where there may be more food for the taking at this time of year.

These shots were taken in a local park where seeds are provided for the birds and Boy! do they love it. The nuthatch is more unusual only in that they usually stay hidden or move so fast they are not so easily spotted. I shall go back to get a better shot of a nuthatch.

All the Ducks in a Row

It’s winter-time and there’s a wider variety of ducks on the go. I don’t ususally bother that much with them as they mostly just sit there on the water. But then when you start seeing some variation.

The flock above are Widgeons – I’d only seen a pair before and here there was around 30 of them floating on the edge of the Clyde Estuary like a flotilla of wee boats. Then someone’s dog ran into the water and spooked them – off the flew – just far enough to get away from said dog.
