Encounter with Scotia’s Warriors

The pistol wasn’t loaded but I still felt a bit nervy taking the above image. These guys from Scotland’s Warriors are simply working to keep Scotland’s history alive. Their attire reflects that of the soldiers of the 1745 Jacobite rebellion; many wearing the blue bonnets, an ancient symbol of patriotism for their country.

What’s a beat-up Philadelphia taxi doing in Glasgow?

Was I lucky? I don’t know but back in 2011, I was wandering round Glasgow with my camera. It was a Saturday and had just dropped my wife off at her tutorial. And didn’t I just stumble on the making of ‘World War Z’? – the post-apocalyptic zombie action horror film starring Brad Pitt.

The Sun will come out tomo…

During our first lockdown back in the spring, the sun shone for weeks on end. Beautiful weather! It really took the edge off those difficult times. We could always get out for a quiet walk or tend to our small garden. In this our second lockdown — well, it’s November in Scotland — we’ve just had the wettest October for decades – and the clouds are still gathering.

Forces in the Field

I’ve just been picking through some of the images from the ‘Forces’ weekend at Culzean Castle – with its extensive menu of Medieval swordplay, engagements from the Napoleonic Wars and skirmishes from the American Civil War. Add in groups representing Second World War troops, campaigning suffragettes, a 1940s hair ‘salon’ and also a band of bikers (?).
