A Back Wall

When you walk down the lane at the back of some houses in Ayrshire, you don’t expect to see something like this. And it’s a lane for general access with garages, some in poor condition, and those walls of the back gardens of the houses. And then this mural appears and certainly raises the spirits. I walk this way with my daughter’s dog on Thursdays and rain or shine, it’s a lovely thing to see.

Same reason I post these photos on this blog, just on the off-chance that they will be spotted by some passer-by who might receive a little enlightenment.

Shapes on Clydeside

In Lens-Artists Challenge #385, Ritva asks us to submit images with Unusual Crops. It’s a great creative exercise to deliberately do these odd shots. But I have to say that I’ve let that part of creativity slip recently. So for this week I’m falling back on an old post from 2020 which I don’t think many Lens-Artists have seen. I took the images on a trip early one Sunday morning back in 2014 . I do hope you appreciate these shots with most these shots cropped in-camera. It was an exercise for me on unusual cropping.

Newark Castle

in one frame #6

Ancient castle on a dreary day. Dark clouds forming to rain down on the 16th century walls, soaking the cute little turrets with their outlook over the river estuary.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.

Snow on the Hill

in one frame #5

When snow fell, I was up the River Irvine valley taking images of landscapes and skies. I think this is the first time, I’ve shown this photograph – appeals to me. Took it with a wide-angle lens to include loads of sky.

Triptychs

Monochrome Madness goes in for triptychs this week, thanks to the challenge by Elke at Pictures Imperfect Blog. I’ve not done this before – never even thought of doing a triptych. Gave it a try and found it quite easy to achieve. So I have a couple here. The first relates to a dress horse competition. I think I could improve on the relationship between the images but I’m quite pleased with this first attempt.

Next, Picking out some images from a local 10k run, I’ve put these three together.

You can click on these images to get larger presentations – unusual feature on this blog.

So, I’m quite taken by this idea. I’m going to put this in the back of my mind and will bring this out sometime again – who knows when?

Thanks again to Elke and Leanne and all involved with Monochrome-madness. If you like to see Elke’s challenge post, just click here

Mono-Minimalism

This week Ritva has set a challenge in the Lens-Artists series, to show minimalist photography in monochrome. It’s a great idea for a challenge and is the sort of photography that gets me thinking. I’ve taken one or two yesterday and also been searching my back catalogue for images that would fit the requirement.

So I’m looking for simple clean mono images with only a few elements that in some way have an aesthetic feel to them. I do like this idea.

Ruins

Prompted by this week’s Monochrome Madness challenge titled ‘Ruins’, I’m posting to fairly recent images. The lead image above is of the famous Dunure Castle once the seat of the Kennedy family who ruled a large part of South-west Scotland.
