The sky is blue, the sea is calm, the air is pure. A heat mist obscures the distant shores. The temperature has risen – surprisingly so – unexpected for last April. Winter clothes are cast off. The scene sooths, uplifts. A day to be grateful.

Lost Horizon
WE haven’t seen the coast for a couple of weeks due to our local restrictions. So when we could we drove up over the hill to a parking place where we full panoramic view over the Firth of Clyde. It was so clear and looked so amazing that no camera could do it justice.

Loudoun Hill is a volcanic plug situated in East Ayrshire, near the town of Darvel. Certainly not the highest hill, but it nevertheless towers over the valley of the River Irvine, and eyes are always drawn to it. Popular for walking, hiking and rock climbing, it’s also a great subject for landscapes in the locality. I’ve photographed it several times – it’s a dramatic sight when snow-covered – but here it is in late October 2019 when the vegetation was dying off and autumn tones were beginning to dominate.
