My last post about the Long-tailed Duck, that unexpected visitor to our local park, led me to recall one of my earliest visits to the park pond with a decent DSLR camera.

Trees in the Sun 3 – Resurgence
This is the third and final image of those white-barked trees that I came across. All images taken on the same day, in the same place with the same vertical camera movement during the exposure. This image was taken with a shutter speed of 1/5 second.

This is the second post in this series of images I captured at Knapp’s Loch with a group of trees of such whitish bark. I liked the streakiness and the hints of the tree shadows along the ground.
I feel here the movement of the camera has created a generally gloomy outlook in the foreground. But the space in the trees gives some hope of a way through present troubles…..hopefully to a brighter future. Lets hope so!

Nature Flower Photography
Recently there have been a few shots that led me to think more about the different ways to photograph a wild flower. I thought perhaps by making some note of these ways I might remember them for the future, and so improve the images I produce.

It’s Saturday. The country park is busy; I get the last parking space. People are not abroad sunning themselves on beaches, or going en-masse to shopping malls: cinemas and sports clubs are shut. But they can come to the parks and many have done so.
I need space and so walk the quiet peripheral trails, looking for some natural compositions. Walking through the woods, lush green above; moving along the river: torrents from recent rains.

Back to nature
A real predator of the animal kingdom. This dragonfly is, indeed, quite common in the UK. I’ve heard it said that their faces look like a smiley clown but at the same time, they are quite vicous predators too. I saw one just drop unexpectedly to the ground and then saw it had taken hold of a sizeable spider, just like a hawk landing on its prey.
