Monochrome Monday
This is a relatively new visitor to our garden – a young grey tabby and a very nervous little cat too. It has lost one of its back legs but that certainly doesn’t slow it down one iota.

I recall a famous quote that says that a portrait shot in colour shows the person’s clothes, but take a portrait in monochrome and it shows the person’s soul.
It’s a great quote, and I’m beginning to think the same theory applies to sports photography. Colour is great for showing the glamour and the visual impact, but a black and white image really seems to show more of the soul of the sport.
more photographsI’ve managed to get images of most of the common small birds around, but the Coal Tit was particularly problematic. Trouble is they are so fidgety; they move so fast; don’t stay still for a second. I’ve had several shots of them disappearing off the side of the frame, or a clear shot of their rear end as they turn so quickly.

I picked some out of my collection of macro images, mostly a variety of insects, hopefully putting some emphasis on colour. The one at the top is of rowanberries which are just coming into colour here at the moment. Hope you like them!

These images were taken from a hide around this time last year.
Continue reading “Goldfinches”Many guys that do this wear black wet suits. Against the sea background they seem almost in mono anyway. But then there’s a wee bit or bright blue or orange on the board itself, which stands out so much – it looks strange. So the answer is to convert it all to black and white for a Monchrome Monday.
One more image to follow on from yesterday’s Kitesurfing post
Kitesurfers thoroughly enjoy these windy conditions and roaring waves. I hadn’t seen them jump so high before and moving so fast on the water.
